Practical, Faith-Centered Guidance

Feeling stuck or overwhelmed? Recovery Basics gives you the foundation you need so you don't face this journey alone.

You Are Not Beyond God's Reach

You might feel trapped, but you are not beyond God's reach. He created you with purpose. He calls you to Himself — not to crush you under guilt, but to lift you into freedom. Even your quiet, imperfect prayers remind you that you are not alone.

You don't need this website or even the Addictless app to succeed. These are simply tools and resources to help you along the way. The most important thing: pray to Jesus Christ and ask Him for the strength and guidance to stop. Nothing else matters more.

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

1 CORINTHIANS 10:13

Four Foundations for Freedom

Biblical Foundation (Spiritual Disciplines)

True recovery is rooted in Christ — not willpower, not a program.

  • ·Begin each day in prayer, bringing your weakness to God before temptation arrives (Matthew 26:41).
  • ·Read God's Word daily — hide it in your heart so you will not sin against Him (Psalm 119:11).
  • ·Memorize Scripture for the moments of crisis — your sword in spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:17).
  • ·Keep a journal of God's faithfulness as a monument against doubt in dark hours.
  • ·Worship regularly in a Bible-believing church — do not forsake the assembly (Hebrews 10:25).

Biblical Warfare (Resisting Temptation)

Recovery is spiritual warfare — put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10–18).

  • ·Flee temptation — don't negotiate with it. Joseph ran; you run too (2 Timothy 2:22).
  • ·Identify and remove triggers ruthlessly: cut off the hand if it causes you to sin (Matthew 5:30).
  • ·Replace sinful habits with righteous ones — do not leave your heart empty (Luke 11:24–26).
  • ·Call a brother or sister in Christ who will pray with you (James 5:16).
  • ·Sing a psalm or hymn to turn your heart toward worship (Ephesians 5:19).

Biblical Fellowship (Support)

We were not meant to walk alone — Christ gives us His church as a family.

  • ·Join a faithful local church where the Word is rightly preached (Hebrews 10:24–25).
  • ·Build fellowship with mature believers who will keep you accountable (Proverbs 27:17).
  • ·Seek an elder, pastor, or trusted mentor to walk with you (1 Thessalonians 5:14).
  • ·Share your struggles honestly — confession brings freedom (James 5:16).
  • ·Asking for help is not weakness — it's humility before God.

Biblical Stewardship (Self-Care)

Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit — care for it as an act of worship (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

  • ·Keep a regular rhythm of rest — God gives sleep to His beloved (Psalm 127:2).
  • ·Eat and drink with gratitude — all good gifts come from the Lord (1 Timothy 4:4–5).
  • ·Care for your health so you may be more fit for God's service (Romans 12:1).
  • ·Cultivate Christ-centered habits that stir your affections toward Him (Colossians 3:17).
  • ·Rejoice in every small victory, giving glory to God for His work in you (Philippians 2:13).

Find a Biblical Church Community

The local church is God's appointed means of grace. Seek out a Bible-believing congregation where the Word is rightly preached, Christ is exalted, and brothers and sisters will walk with you.

Drugs, Pornography, Gambling, Alcohol: One Chain, One Savior

The Bible says whatever overcomes a person enslaves them (2 Peter 2:19). The substance or the screen may be different, but the slavery is the same, and so is the way out: Jesus Christ. A few practical first steps:

  • ·Drugs and pills: Never detox alone. Stopping some drugs suddenly can be deadly, and overdose risk spikes after a break. See a doctor, keep naloxone (Narcan) at home, and cut off every supplier.
  • ·Pornography: Bring it into the light this week with a pastor or godly friend. Put filters and accountability software on every device, and keep the phone out of the bedroom.
  • ·Gambling: Delete every app, sign up for self-exclusion, hand your finances to someone you trust for a season, and tell the truth about the debt.
  • ·Alcohol: If you drink heavily or daily, see a doctor before you quit. Alcohol withdrawal can cause seizures. Get it out of the house.
